The Devil’s Reliquary: Archival Clamshell Box for The Devils

$95.00

Some books whisper. This one hisses.

The Devil’s Reliquary is a bespoke archival clamshell box, reverse-engineered—according to dubious but persistent rumor—from an artifact built by the Witch Engineers of Carthage. Crafted to preserve the signed, limited edition of The Devils by Joe Abercrombie (The Broken Binding, 2025), this enclosure is not merely a container, but a containment.

Constructed by Bibliopathologist with decades of experience in bookbinding and conservation, the case features a drop-spine structure wrapped in black linen, with interior trays clad in deep red linen—like muscle beneath a cassock. The outer edge of the upper tray (the visible lip when closed) is finished with a digitally printed design that echoes the textblock’s molten and fiery pattern: a design as volcanic as the story it holds.

The spine and front cover bear recessed labels, printed on parchment-textured vellum photo paper and coated in archival acrylic—a nod to ecclesiastical doctrine and infernal sigil alike. Their design draws from the volume’s typography and hints at the iconography of the Chapel of the Holy Expediency, whose Vicars have overseen the containment of devils by employing…devils.

Inside, the trays are lined with soft gray flocked velvet imported from Laval, France—evoking both ritual restraint and monastic elegance. A precision-fitted spine insert helps create a stable, microclimate-sealed refuge, while a black satin ribbon in the bottom tray offers both convenience and grace in lifting the volume from its cradle. Light cannot reach it. Dust cannot cling. Even time, that oldest of enemies, must stand back from the bars.

“Stay back from the bars, keep on your toes, trust nothing they say, and I’m sure you’ll fare better than your predecessor.”

Because the worst monsters often make the best allies—and this box keeps them close, silent, and sealed.

Dimensions: 10.31 in (26.2 cm) H × 6.95 in (17.7 cm) W × 2.14 in (5.4 cm) D
